Dublin Zoo
I was asked by my host school to bring a goup of 8 transition year students to Dublin Zoo by myself. The students were taking part in a competition to re-design the giraffe living space and our visit allowed them to learn more about the giraffes and their living requirements.
The Dead Zoo
I brought my 2nd year students to the Dead Zoo in Dublin as part of their CBA project. We had discussed in class about the process of taxidermy and the ethics around the preservation and displaying of deceased animals. The students made sketches of the specimen on display which they used to help develop their work.
Oratory of the Sacred Heart,
Dun Laoghaire
I recommended and booked this trip to the Sacred Heart Oratory in Dun Laoghaire. This oratory is a hidden gem that has a direct link to the Book of Kells manuscript.
On the day, we also visited the Lexicon Library in Dun Laoghaire, where an exhibition about the oratory was taking place.
